‘Ello, y’all!

I’m Krista, a Brit abroad living out my American dream in the glorious Sunshine State.

Born and raised in the United Kingdom, I hopped the pond in 2016 to escape the rain and landed in Tampa Bay, where I still proudly call home.

It’s been my dream to live here since I was young. Although there were plenty of British children’s TV shows, I would always turn to likes of Disney’s Lizzie Maguire and MTV’s Cribs. I remember watching President Obama’s inauguration on TV in ’08 and being amazed by the magnitude of it all. I mean, did you see the size of that crowd?!

Eight years later, as President Obama was moving out of the White House, I moved into my new dorm at the University of South Florida to study Political Science.

I entered the whirlwind of Florida Politics through an internship at a lobbying firm, and soon learnt that nothing happens in government just because it’s a good idea. It’s a fascinating game of persuasion, strategy, and storytelling. After jumping through a lot of hoops, googling some embarrassingly basic comms questions, listening to a million podcasts, and writing my own dream job description (and then landing it!!), I now work in PR and strategic communications.

When I’m out of the office, which is filled with tropical plants and pictures of the beach, you’ll find me at the actual beach. Sunshine, palm trees, and blue skies are my thing – as I mentioned earlier, I escaped the English weather.

Fun fact about me: I consider myself a cocktail connoisseur and believe that life is too short for a boring drink. I appreciate experiences – a fun glass, a funky name, something spicy to jazz it up at least.

And yes, I still drink tea … iced tea.
